Oops.

Update: ICYWW here’s why I tore it open.

He’s dead, Jim. I got a new one from RepairClinic.com. Not the cheapest, but reliable and the extra price helps pay for the DIY help YouTube videos they make.

Update 2: New heating element even came with the insulator pad and thermostat. Nice! Already in place. Time to lubricate the main bearing since I’m in there and reassemble.

Bonus Subaru content since I’m halfway in the garage anyway

Final update: Back together in test mode with the lid off. Ran great so I finished putting it back together.

The orange glow means it’s heating.

Good as new. Only an hour of work (I’ve had this thing apart twice before) and saved $700 compared to buying a new one. So now I can buy my wife a shiny new iPhone next week (she’s been nursing along an iPhone 6 with a dying screen, dying battery, and dead sleep button) instead of having to shop for appliances.

It’s those rotaries, always going bad at the wrong moment.

Hey, while you were in there, did you find out where the other sock always goes?

isn’t the first step opening the door? :p

Get a paper clip and connect the broken coils together

No socks. Must be the washer that eats those.

First step is remove the spark plug so it doesn’t start by accident :P

I already ordered a new heating element. I’m cheap but not fix it with a paper clip cheap.

Those clothes look suspiciously dry. I guess it works after all!

My home came with a fairly similar Frigidaire one from the builder.

They’re not very well designed nor built. Mine shorted and burnt a wire to the door switch right before warranty was about to end.

Turns out it was because Electrolux decided to run a wire without any protection right along the sharp metal frame, so when the machine runs and vibrate, it’s sawing the wire and eventually a pop and a spark out of nowhere one day. Luckily the short only burnt the wire and not the PCB, and it was a quick fix with a screw terminal and some electrical tape.

PO left a matched Frigidaire set. As you can see in the last picture, we’ve replaced the washer with a Whirlpool. You’re right the Frigidair has a pretty shoddy design and build quality. But it was basically free and as long as fixes are easy I’ll limp it along.

I replaced a 25 cent resistor in my parents oven and saved them $2k for a new one. Of course a new board is like $200 but it makes me feel better to brag to everyone what a genius i am.
